nice! I have mine all ready to post but I am waiting till tomorrow :) So – what were your favs and least favs for the year??

It’s always fun to look back, isn’t it? A year in books. I love it.

      Favorites:
Bad Mother – this collection of essays by Ayelet Waldman helped me to realize that no one is a perfect mother and that there probably is no such thing. I don’t know about you, but even after all these years as a mother to Rowan, I worry about being a good parent to her. It’s good to remember that it is okay to be “good enough” – the best you can be on any given day.

Betrayal – a very weird Danish crime book. Very creepy and stuck with me for a while (this was the year of Nordic crime books, apparently, if you look at all the Jo Nesbo I read!)

The Imperfectionists – 14 or so intertwined tales of people working at a newspaper in Rome. I thought this book was entrancing and I loved it.

Everything Matters! – I didn’t even like this book that much when I was reading it, but then I got to the last 30 pages and they were amazing. Really a good reminder that everything DOES matter. The little things. The relationships that we have.

The Hunger Games books – mostly because they were just really fun more than anything else

The Search for WondLa – Rowan and I read this together and I thought that it was really well-written and paced. I could picture everything in my head like a movie and I really like books like that.

Red Hook Road – a fiction book by Ayelet Waldman. It’s a story that starts with tragedy and follows two families as their lives unfold after that.

      Least Faves:
Lick Your Neighbor – nonsensical. I really liked the author’s first book, FOOP!, but this was just dumb.

Great House – such a disappointment after Nicole Karuse’s book “This History of Love”. I just kept hoping that something magical or wonderful would happen and it didn’t. It was boring and blahhhh.

Gunn’s Golden Rules – I love Tim Gunn, but this book is just kind of boring. It was fun to read with a Tim Gunn voice in my head, though!

The Invention of Hugo Cabret – another book read with Rowan. I thought that it would be magical and wonderful, but it was just okay. I have heard that the movie is really good, though, so maybe we’ll like that more?

I just published my list! I read the Hunger games this year, too. did you know there’s a nailpolish collection that’s coming out, named after the different districts? I’m weirdly excited for it :)
Bad Mother & Betrayal sound especially interesting, and I saw The Invention of Hugo Cabret somewhere and was wanting to read it…too bad it was a let down!

I did NOT know that about the District nail polish. That is weirdly exciting!

I think that the Invention of Hugo Cabret would have been good had it not been hyped and had I not just read “The Search for WondLa” with Rowan, which entranced me in a way that Hugo just did not. It’s worth reading, because you will read it in like an hour – it is like a movie, in a book. I just wanted a little bit MORE from it. We have “another book by Brian Selznick, too, and I am hoping that it is a little better.
